November 28, 2014 - Fall Research and Development Update -
A large complement of client work and internal R&D; have been keeping TSG busy in Q3 and Q4 of this year. Meetings with several external funding sources have occurred after NewSpace, and work on the IR laser melting project has taken on new branches.
Recently, TSG has moved locations in Orlando in order to accommodate expansion necessary for several large private space industry clients. Problem solving in composites and space environment operations are at the top of the list. The ACSIS lunar micro-rover has entered the Mark II development stage, and will be integrating sensors and a new drive system over the winter before testing again.
Finally, TSG has committed to push forward on two big rocket projects- FDM hybrid motors will begin testing, and a large sounding rocket development plan is in the works after solid propellant characterization is complete.
July 3, 2014 - Great Minds Think Alike -
TSG is pleased to announce a number of partnerships that have been developed over the past few months. ASAPMining is a local firm headed by a cryptocurrency market genius with
major enthusiasm for space-related development projects- specifically those that involve Dogecoin. Femtoduino is providing some tiny, low-mass microcontrollers and motor boards for our projects, and Digital Maps is a favorite for LiDAR-based imaging and
graphical data handling. 4Frontiers is excited about anything space- especially efforts to the moon and Mars!
June 8, 2014 - Getting Ready for NewSpace 2014 -
We're committing to some big things before the end of July! TSG will be sending a 3-person
delegation to the Space Frontier Foundation's NewSpace 2014 conference in Silicon Valley in hopes of making some good connections... and on the same weekend will look to evaluate
our lunar micro-rover prototype at the TSG Mojave Test Site.
May 26, 2014 - TSG will field a Lunar Iditarod team -
After providing direct engineering help to two past lunar-roving related projects, TSG has
decided to apply this expertise to a Lunar Iditarod entry. Lunar Iditarod is a competition where the winners of several gated challenges will have their micro-sized lunar rover

March 10, 2014 - Laboratory is Set / 3D-printed Hybrid Motor -
The downtown workspace has been outfitted and now contains TSG's primary
fabrication and laboratory equipment. Having everything all in one place means we can get back to work on the 3D-printed hybrid rocket grain project.
February 21, 2014 - Lunar Mining Robot -
A participating team in NASA's Lunabotics competition, the Lunar Knights, will be sourcing
TSG as a provider of composite parts, 3D-printed plastic parts, and general integration assistance. Good luck, Knights!
January 24, 2014 - New Downtown Location -
TSG has secured a new hybrid workspace and office in the Downtown Orlando area.
Close to everything, it provides a great place to meet clients as well as a large enough area to set up a climate-controlled workspace.
December 3, 2013 - New Year's Resolutions -
December is a very important month... for writing grant proposals. TSG will be seeking
SBIR funding for some big projects... visit the Projects page for details on some of these.
November 18, 2013 - Mojave Research Site -
Successful in the desert! An untold number of Big Sagebrush shrubs are removed to make
room for a dome-shaped robotics test enclosure and a small solar-powered lithium battery bank for running instrumentation. Take a look on the picasa site by clicking the multicolored shutter icon on the right!
November 8, 2013 - Mojave Research Site Plan -
Dr. Karl will be doing something useful with his piece of the Mojave Desert. This week,
with Francis Tam assisting, the site will be cleared and some infrastructure centered around future Project Sandcastle testing will be added.
October 13, 2013 - Large format 3D printer -
An update to the computer that interfaces with TSG's oversized reprap-derivative
3D printer is enabling better preprocessing and faster prototyping runs.
October 4, 2013 - Test site evaluation -
Mojave desert test site has been evaluated for Sandcastle-style sintering, as well
as robotic rover and telemetry tests. A 2.5 acre area was cleared to prepare a clean desert/Lunar/Martian analog.
September 19, 2013 - Project Sandcastle -
Proof of concept work performed on Sandcastle sub-systems... some interest in the
project from outside sources makes it look like this might be an appealing project to take to a very large scale.

Control and power systems requirements are sized for the scaled-up laser
sintering machine known as TSG's "sandcastle builder"...
August 26, 2013 - Laser-based soil sintering experiments -
Preliminary sintering tests with directed laser light
of varying wavelengths have been conducted in an effort to determine robustness of the melt process. Soils of varying density,
moisture content, and organic content were fused in laboratory experiments.
August 3, 2013 - Seed grant awarded -
TSG is pleased to announce that team lead Dr. Justin Karl has received
the Mike Lounge Innovative Research Award and an associated grant. Dr. Karl met with the late Shuttle Astronaut's family and was
commended for his early development of solid-state optical sintering methods for planetary habitat construction. Dr. Karl has
deemed that the funds will be directed to further research and development in this area.
